Although Kerman, CA was only incorporated in 1946, it has a rich history that dates back to before the turn of the 20 century. It all started in the early 1890's, when the Southern Pacific Railroad was constructed between Fresno and Tracy, California. Back then, there were watering tanks for the train engineers to stop at between long runs, and on this particular line the pump began at a place they called Kerman. Naturally enough, the first inhabitant of Kerman was the caretaker of this pump -- although he didn't last very long. The poor guy ended up quitting his position because he said it was too lonely. He lived completely alone and said that the engineers that came through were always too busy to stop and chat. How sad, indeed.

Today, Kerman is a very different place than what it was almost 100 years ago. While it only has 14,000 residents, it's also home to the Harvest Festival in September and hosts an incredible Christmas Parade in December as well as a 4 of July fireworks show in July for all its residents.
